Overview

Susquehanna Hong Kong Limited (a member of the Susquehanna International Group of Companies) is currently seeking an In-House Senior Legal Counsel. The role is to advise on the full range of legal matters which affect its business across APAC, in particular Hong Kong, Mainland China, Korea, Singapore and Japan.

 

This role requires a seasoned and commercially minded financial markets lawyer who has broad knowledge of APAC financial markets and the ability to successfully engage with stakeholders across multiple businesses and business functions in the region and globally.

 

What you’ll do

 

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will be a trusted and valued business partner who will:

  • Provide legal support to stakeholders and senior management across Susquehanna’s multiple businesses in APAC, spanning proprietary trading, market making, liquidity provision, and institutional sales and trading.
  • Work across a diverse range of legal and regulatory matters, including advising on dealing, brokerage, execution, custody, clearing, prime brokerage, market access, electronic trading arrangements, as well as technology, infrastructure and market data matters.
  • Partner with the Compliance function to advise on regulatory licensing, dealing with APAC regulators, and regulatory inspections / investigations.
  • Be a key contributor on strategic projects and business development initiatives in the APAC region.
  • Manage organisational legal matters and provide legal input on a wide range of commercial and operational matters.
  • Work closely with other members of the in-house legal team in the APAC region.

What we’re looking for

  • Holder of a current practising certificate in Hong Kong, Singapore, UK or Australia.
  • At least 8 years’ post-admission experience, including private practice experience gained at international law firms.
  • Strong commercial judgment and the ability to provide nuanced, pragmatic, and commercially sound legal advice while engaging actively with the business and senior leaders in the region.
  • In-house sell-side or buy-side experience in global markets/securities/derivatives across a variety of business structures / models, product / asset classes, and jurisdictions, in particular, institutional client facing businesses.   
  • In-depth understanding of APAC rules and regulations, regulatory frameworks and regulatory environment relevant to Susquehanna’s businesses.
  • Broad knowledge of corporations law, securities law and corporate governance.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, problem solving, and analytical skills, and exceptional legal drafting and communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Organized and able to prioritize tasks / workload efficiently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and in a collegial manner with team members and colleagues in Hong Kong and other offices (including Susquehanna’s US headquarters) within the framework of a global firm.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin), Japanese or Korean would be highly regarded.
